Exfoliating Shower Towel by Goshi
CNN —
Start with something you do every day: bathing, if you want to concentrate on your health and treat yourself in the new year. For just $15 on Amazon, the Exfoliating Shower Towel by Goshi is coming to change your shower experience. When you walk out of the shower, the towel’s exfoliating weave promises to make you feel fresher and more invigorated.
I tossed away my loofah and bought my own Goshi shower towel to test out, intrigued by the notion of adding a spa-like experience to my grooming routine — and it lived up to the promise.

The Goshi Exfoliating Shower Towel is produced in Gunma, Japan, a prefecture with a long history as a center for high-quality textile production, particularly silk. To develop its exfoliating miracle towel, Goshi recruited the help of some of Japan’s best textile factories. The towel, which is made with a delicate and contrasting weave, can lather, exfoliate, and scrub you clean, making a normal shower seem more luxurious.
The Goshi towel is packaged in a plain yellow box with simple instructions on the reverse. The texture of the towel was the first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the box. It’s not a fluffy, soft towel you’ll want to wrap yourself in. The towel is thin — nearly translucent — and has a rough feel to it due to its weaving. The towel is considerably larger than expected, measuring almost 4 feet in length, but this proved helpful for cleaning hard-to-reach places.

In the shower, utilizing the towel is as simple as using any other washcloth. It’s as simple as wetting the towel, folding it up a little, and adding soap. I tried it with both liquid soap and bar soap, and both lathered up the towel well. Simply start cleaning after the towel is soapy.
The rough texture is nearly sandpaper-like, yet in the nicest conceivable manner. While the feeling of washing away all the filth and dead skin on my body was first unpleasant, I felt very clean and rejuvenated afterward, making the additional step in my shower routine totally worthwhile.
Because of its abrasive texture, the package advises against using the towel on your face or other delicate regions, and I agree. Additionally, if you have very sensitive skin, this may not be the towel for you. It is, however, soft enough to use every day, and after a few showers, I had become used to the towel’s texture. I’m no longer bothered by the roughness.
Simply clean the Goshi completely after each use and hang it to dry. Knowing how filthy loofahs can become, I was disappointed to see that you couldn’t put it in the washing machine to clean it, but you can always hand-wash it in between showers if it needs it.
Depending on how frequently you clean it and how vigorously you scrub it, these towels should last at least three to six months, but Goshi’s website says they may last up to a year (you should probably replace it before then anyway). I’ve had mine for almost a month and it’s still in perfect condition. There is no apparent wear or ripping, and there are no foul odors, which is common with an old loofah.
After using the Goshi Exfoliating Shower Towel, I was astounded at how much better a shower can feel. After washing with the Japanese miracle towel, my skin felt cleaner, softer, and more rejuvenated, and if you don’t have super-sensitive skin, you’ll enjoy it too. This tiny towel can totally alter the way you look at showers for just $15 on Amazon.
