WASHINGTON, D.C. — Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks had the pin removed from his surgically repaired right middle finger, a crucial milestone in his recovery from his most serious injury.
After the Seahawks (3-5) return from their bye week, the issue of whether Wilson will be ready to play against the Packers at Lambeau Field on Nov. 14 lingers.
Wilson captioned a photo of his removed pin on Monday afternoon, ” “There will be no more pins. It’s now or never to win.” It had been roughly an hour after coach Pete Carroll told reporters he didn’t know when it would be removed.
“I have no idea when it’ll be released, and I have no updates for you,” Carroll stated. “We’re just hoping for the best in terms of his comeback and that everything goes well as we get him into the mode where he can utilize his hand and finger with the football and other things. So all we have to do now is work hard and see what happens. There are currently no updates available.”
According to Carroll, removing the pin is far from the last step in Wilson’s recovery. Wilson’s finger will then need to recover for “a couple of days” before he can start throwing, according to him.
Carroll said, “It’s how he works when that’s gone and he’s ready to start maturing.” “It’s a lot more than that. They believe there is a very definite schedule for the next couple of days once that is removed, and then it’s just a matter of how he can develop. Of course, after he pulls it out, the doctors will examine it and see what it looks like now. We’ll have to watch how it goes since it’ll be the first time he’ll be able to flex his finger.”
Wilson had surgery on Oct. 8, a day after colliding with Aaron Donald on a follow-through during the Seahawks’ defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in the third quarter. Wilson’s operation, according to Dr. Steven Shin, was to treat a tendon tear (mallet finger) and a fracture-dislocation.

Wilson might return as soon as four weeks after surgery, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Adam Schefter.

Carroll gave a more upbeat report on Chris Carson than he did last Friday, when he said it was unclear if the running back would return this season after suffering a neck injury. Carson plans to practice next week in preparation for a return against Green Bay, but Carroll isn’t sure whether he’ll be ready to play.
Carson has been out for the previous four games and has spent the last three on injured reserve, so he is eligible to return. On Monday, physicians will evaluate him to see whether he’s ready to practice again.
“So until we go to practice, we’ll see where he stands,” Carroll added. “He’s dead set on completing that task, so I’m crossing my fingers that he’ll be able to return to the field and begin working with us. Until we learn more, that’s about as positive as we can be.”
Alex Collins has started all four games in which Carson has been out, carrying 61 times for 227 yards and a score.
Carroll reports that cornerback D.J. Reed looks to be fine after exiting Sunday’s game with a pulled groin. He said that the results of an MRI were negative.
