A magician trying to catch Death in exchange for everlasting life accidentally captures her younger brother Dream, according to the official description for The Sandman. For decades, the magician kept him imprisoned in a glass bottle, fearful for his safety. After escaping, Dream, also known as Morpheus, embarks on a search for his stolen power items. According to Neil Gaiman, the intention is to accurately adapt the series, starting with Preludes & Nocturnes and The Doll’s House in the first season. However, the next series will have a number of modifications to bring the narrative up to current. One of these modifications, for example, is that the series now takes place in 2021 rather than 1989, and Dream is imprisoned for 105 years rather than 75.
The Sandman was originally adapted to cinema in 1991, but it languished in development purgatory for several years. In 2013, David S. Goyer proposed Warner Bros. a cinematic version of the series, with David S. Goyer and Neil Gaiman producing with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was initially slated to star and potentially direct. Later in 2016, however, Gordon-Levitt left due to creative disagreements. Warner Bros. switched their emphasis to a television series due to the film’s lengthy production. In June 2019, Netflix agreed to create the series, with shooting set to take place from October 2020 to August 2021.
Neil Gaiman’s comic book series The Sandman is published by DC Comics and authored by him. Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, Jill Thompson, Shawn McManus, Marc Hempel, Bryan Talbot, and Michael Zulli are among the artists, alongside Todd Klein’s lettering and Dave McKean’s covers. From January 1989 through March 1996, The Sandman was published in a 75-issue comic book series. The Sandman was one of the first few graphic books to reach the New York Times Best Seller list, and it was well praised. Filming on The Sandman concluded in August, and although no official release date has been set, it is anticipated to premiere on Netflix in late 2021.
